GREEN TWP. - Oak Hills went 17-7 last season on the baseball diamond, and the Highlanders have quite a bit of talent returning this season.
Oak Hills also went 12-6 in the Greater Miami Conference to finish fourth, two games behind co-champions Fairfield and Mason.
Five starters return from that team, as well as six others with varsity experience. Senior pitcher/outfielder Austin Penwell returns with the most experience on the mound, going 4-2 last season with a 3.91 ERA. Senior catcher Brett Kron is back behind the dish, after hitting .304 last season. Junior infielder Kyle Spille was one of the Highlanders' top hitters last season with a .322 average. Junior outfielder/pitcher Drew Wetterich was GMC first team last season after hitting a team-high .390 with 17 RBI. Junior Nick Deifel is also back as a pitcher and third baseman.
Oak Hills will also need senior pitcher Tyler Bess, junior pitcher/outfielder Tyler Murphy, and junior pitcher/outfielder Griffen Kain to bring experience and depth to a variety of areas.
"Entering the season with guarded optimism," said head coach Chuck Laumann, now in his 23rd season as head coach. "Many intangibles must come into play for teams to have successful seasons, hence the guarded optimism.
